Orientation and Mentoring Workshop
Virtual activity: We started L'Oréal For Girls in Science-Puerto Rico with a program orientation and continued with a workshop and preparation session for the young women to become mentors for Semillas de Triunfo.
Mentoring practice: In-person workshops
In-person activity:
The participants have their first experience as mentors, participating in the leadership workshop for the girls from Semillas de Triunfo. In the workshop, they accompany the girls and offer information on how to carry out a STEM Ambassador project.
Mentorship Practice: Virtual Sessions
Virtual activity:
The participants will have their second practice as mentors, taking part in discussion groups with other mentors and girls from Semillas de Triunfo
Science Club 1
In-person activity:
At Science Club 1, various experiences are offered:
- Group mentoring and support from L'Oréal Caribe and CienciaPR staff
- Group dynamics
- Lipstick creation
- Laboratory tour
- Networking
- STEM scientific challenge
In-person and remote mentoring for participants
Hybrid activity:
We connect each participant with a female mentor and STEM professional. The young women meet their mentors during the in-person activity, Science Club 1.
During the virtual session of Science Club 2, mentors and participants begin working on the Individual Academic Plan and continue remote mentoring until its completion.
Science Club 2
Virtual activity:
In Science Club 2, participants receive an inspiring talk from a woman in STEM allied with L'Oréal. Additionally, the young women begin working with their mentor on their Individual Academic Plan.
Individual Academic Plan
Remote activity:
Participants must complete, with the guidance of their mentor, an individual academic plan that will allow them to chart a path towards a university STEM degree.
Workshop on university applications
Virtual Activity:
The Latinas in STEAM organization offers participants a workshop on how to apply to universities in the United States and how to write strong essays for their application.
STEM Meeting
Optional in-person activity:
The young women have their third opportunity to mentor the participants of Semillas de Triunfo and offer advice on how to communicate their STEM Ambassadors projects. They also enjoy a "pizza party"!
Online Talks, Together We Can
Virtual Activity:
Four extraordinary women in STEM offer talks about their career paths. FGIS-PR participants must attend at least two virtual talks.
Graduation
In-person activity:
Participants celebrate their achievements alongside their mentors, family, and L'Oréal Caribe and CienciaPR staff and sponsors.
