We are looking for an immediate hire of multiple Research Assistant/Interviewer positions at FDI Clinical Research in San Juan, Puerto Rico to implement the protocols for data collection for the NIH-funded PROSPECT project, an island-wide observational study of cardiovascular risk factors among adults in Puerto Rico. The project and the position will be supervised by Dr. Josiemer Mattei at Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health and Dr. Jose F.

  • NOAA’s National Ocean Service, National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science in partnership with the National Marine Fisheries Service, Southeast Fisheries Science Center and Southeast Regional Office are working to build spatial science capacity in the U.S. Caribbean Region. This helps to ensure an equitable use of shared ocean resources and address environmental considerations early in marine planning initiatives.

With 20 extreme heat advisories and 27 extreme heat warnings issued, June 2023 set a precedent as one of the hottest months in Puerto Rico's climatological history.

The species is distinguishable by its light blue head, bright yellow belly and rapid song.

 

 

If you hear the goldfinch's melodious song louder this week, it's probably because it's celebrating its designation as Puerto Rico's 19th endemic bird.

Workshop in Cuba about Farmer-to-Farmer (Campesino a Campesino) methodology

The National Association of Small Farmers of Cuba (ANAP) is offering a weeklong training workshop in the Farmer-to-Farmer (Campesino a Campesino) methodology which since the 1990s has been essential to the amplification of agroecology across Cuba. CAI is partnering with ANAP to support coordination of the training. All teaching will be done by Cuban staff and members of ANAP.

The phenomenon increased at an annual rate of 9.6% between 2011 and 2022.
Every week during the spring, when the sun sets, 30 students from the Astronomy class at the University of Puerto Rico (UPR) in Cayey cross the campus carrying their telescopes and notebooks. They come to study the orbit of the planets and the properties of celestial bodies, but, increasingly, light pollution obstructs their view of the night sky.

Reaping the fruits of their work for the protection of the leatherback turtles, hawksbill turtles, and green sea turtles, and they are committed to continue recruiting volunteers for their initiatives.

 

Stopping the illegal hunting of sea turtles, the plundering of their nests and the theft of their eggs has been the goal of a group of friends from Maunaba who, since 2001, have been engaged in research on the populations of these endangered species and the alternatives to preserve them.
