CienciaPR launches a new educational campaign to promote vaccination against COVID-19

To inspire confidence in COVID-19 vaccines and promote vaccination as an act of solidarity, the non-profit organization Ciencia Puerto Rico (CienciaPR) has just launched the second public service campaign of the "Aquí Nos Cuidamos Toolkit" under the theme, "Vacúnate, por ti y por mí" (Get vaccinated, for you and for me). This effort coincides with the World Immunization Week declared by the World Health Organization and celebrated from April 25 to May 1 this year.

To continue promoting education for the prevention of the coronavirus that causes COVID-19, the non-profit organization Ciencia Puerto Rico (CienciaPR) developed the "Aquí Nos Cuidamos Toolkit" or #AquiNosCuidamosPR. Due to the warming ocean temperatures, coral reefs around Puerto Rico have been under stress for more than 7 weeks in a row, which could provoke a massive bleaching event after October 27. If this bleaching occurs there could be negative effects of unknown magnitude to fishing, recreational and tourism industries.

Protecting coral reefs from sunscreen

A team of scientists and students at the University of Puerto Rico in Mayagüez developed a material with magnetic properties that is able to remove components found in sunscreen that can be harmful to coral reefs and marine life.

However, two Latina faculty members at the College of the Holy Cross, in Worcester MA, vehemently shattered the perceived boundaries between these disciplines to provide their students with a unique and long-lasting learning experience.
