When we were kids we learned that: "If you get close to something hot, you'll feel the heat; if you get closer, you'll get burned." Something curious about this "rule" is that if we generalize it, we could be totally wrong. Ask yourself, for example: now that we are feeling the coolness (or bitter cold) of the winter, is the Sun closer or further away from the Earth? If we follow our "rule" we would say that the Sun is further from Earth. But, we are wrong. In this article, part of CienciaPR's collaboration with El Nuevo Día, Wilson González Espada explains why.

"Hunting" for recyclabe materials

Forty years as a fisherman and hunter have taken Arnaldo “Papo” Chaves to the most remote corners of eastern Puerto Rico, searching for the best places to practice his hobbies. During his trips, he also realized how much trash contaminates our environment, due to all the plastic, styrofoam, boxes and other trash he found. All of these has put him on a mission to recycle and educate residents of his community about the benefits of this eco-friendly practice.

Amgen donates $1 million to the University of Puerto Rico

The Amgen Foundation gave $1 million to the University of Puerto Rico for a program called Bio-MINDS, which will be offered at the Rio Piedras, Medical Sciences, Cayey, Humacao and Mayagüez campuses. This programs wants to motivate undegraduate students to do reserach.
