MBRS RISE Program Update and Technical Assistance Workshops

The Minority Biomedical Research Support Research Initiative for Scientific Enhancement (MBRS RISE) program was recently updated. Now applicants must select and apply for one of three options based on their institution’s track record of students graduating and pursuing Ph.D.s in the biomedical or behavioral sciences and their number of faculty participating in funded biomedical research as principal investigators.

Last day to reconsider eolic park plans

Today is the last day for the Planning Board of Puerto Rico to reconsider its support to a proposed eolic plan in Guayanilla, near the dry forest of Guanica. Environmentalists argue that this eolic park will endanger species and habitats in the area. To submit a motion for reconsideration to the Planning Board, click here.

"2,000 acres greener"

Governor Luis Fortuño signed an executive order to designate 2,000 acres as State forest. This includes acres in the Tres Picachos forest in Ciales and Jayuya, 29 acres in the Forest of the New Millenium in San Juan, and another 1,382 acres between the municipalities of Guanica, Yauco, Ciales, Hatillo, y Arecibo.

El Instituto Nacional de Investigación sobre el Genóma Humano (NHGRI, por sus siglas en inglés), acaba de lanzar un nuevo centro de recurso para estudiantes interesados en carrerras en el área de la genómica. El website cuenta con videos y perfiles que describen mas de 50 carreras en esta area. Tambien ofrece una herramienta para evaluar diferentes posibles carreras y un juegos interactivo.
