CDC seeks exceptional candidates for a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Health Equity in the Office of the Director,  National Center for HIV, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention (NCHHSTP). 

Research Project:

The postdoctoral fellow will receive training from NCHHSTP Office of Health Equity mentors in developing and implementing research projects that inform the development of effective strategies and interventions to reduce disparities in HIV, other STDs, TB, and viral hepatitis and improve school health among one or more disproportionately affected populations. Effective strategies will support the guiding principle of high impact prevention, a public health approach to disease prevention in which proven, cost-effective and scalable interventions are implemented for preventing the greatest amount of infections or for reducing disparities, given available resources. Mentors and fellows will collaborate to develop a list of diverse research activities that they will complete together over the two-year (subject to funding) training period. These activities will be based on the fellow’s area(s) of interest, training, and experience and the mission of the NCHHSTP Office of Health Equity.

Learning Objectives: The activities listed below represent the minimum training opportunities that the fellow will complete:

• Conduct or participate in one site visit related to a health-equity related research project or programmatic activity subject to the availability of funding and travel restrictions
• Design, conduct, and interpret an analysis on public health data
• Write and submit at least two scientific manuscripts for a peer-reviewed journal
• Present an oral presentation or poster at one or more scientific meetings
• Attend monthly scientific meetings on emerging health equity issues

Anticipated Appointment Start Date: October 31, 2022.  Start date is flexible and will depend on a variety of factors.

Appointment Length:  The appointment will initially be for one year but may be renewed upon recommendation of CDC and is contingent on the availability of funds.

Required Qualifications: The qualified candidate should have received a doctoral degree in one of the relevant fields (see below) or be currently pursuing the degree with completion before the appointment start date. Degree must have been received within the past five years.

Preferred Skills:

• Recent publications in referred journals and presentations on health equity related to HIV, viral hepatitis, STDs, TB, or adolescent health
• Documented training and skills in quantitative data analyses
• Evidence of research experience or experience involving disproportionately affected populations in the United States

Eligibility Requirements:

• Degree: Doctoral Degree received within the last 60 months or currently pursuing.
