1. Assistant Professor

The Science Division at California Lutheran University invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the Assistant Professor level in the fields of Biology, Biochemistry, or Chemistry to begin in Fall 2016. The specific subfields within the listed science disciplines are flexible, and interdisciplinarity is valued. A Ph.D. is required and postdoctoral experience is preferred. The Assistant Professor will mentor and engage students in the Pre-Med/Pre-Health program and assist with the University’s Hispanic Service Institutions (HSI) endeavors. She/he will employ active learning pedagogy in both lower and upper division courses in their respective discipline, but a sustained presence in the introductory courses is expected. She/he will act as an academic advisor to students, serve on faculty or university committees, and engage in scholarly endeavors that involve undergraduates. Preference will be given to candidates who are bilingual in English/Spanish and can serve as a role model for Hispanic students.

The Science Division at California Lutheran University has excellent resources for supporting student involvement in scientific/mathematical discovery, and is currently planning a new science building that will increase laboratory space dedicated to research and teaching. 2. Open Rank Professor of Science/Math Education and HSI Coordinator

The Science Division at California Lutheran University invites applications for an open rank, tenure-track appointment in a field of Science/Math Education (Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, or Math) to begin in Fall 2016. A doctoral degree is required. She/he will employ active learning pedagogy in both lower and upper division courses in their respective discipline, but a sustained presence in the introductory courses is expected. This individual will serve as the University’s Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI) Coordinator, aligning Cal Lutheran’s strategic initiatives with long-term HSI planning and development activities. She/he will act as a liaison, develop and maintain communications with community groups, relevant University offices, and applicable agencies, including school districts, supporting HSI funding, programming, and planning. This individual is also to serve as an academic advisor to students, serve on faculty or university committees, and engage in scholarly endeavors and innovative pedagogies in the field of Science/Math Education. Preference will be given to candidates who are bilingual in English/Spanish and can serve as a role model for Hispanic students.
