The Postbaccalacurate Research Education Program (PREP), which is designed for minority college students who are recent college graduates and who want to spend a year doing research before going on to pursue graduate school in biomedical sciences. In addition to working in a lab, students take one graduate course each semester, they take a GRE preparation course and they get paid $21,000. Participants meet weekly as a group with me and the project director, Alison Hall, PHD. Dr. Hall is director of the our Office of Graduate Education, Professor of Neuroscience and the Principal Investigator of the PREP grant. PREP is funded by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (of NIH). We have 1-2 openings at the moment. We expect to make our final selections by June 22. If you are interested in learning more about PREP and applying, follow this link: http://gradresed.case.edu/prep/applicationstart.php Case Western Reserve University is located in Cleveland, Ohio. Yes, it is cold here, but 25,000 Puerto Ricans live in our city. We also have a nice community of PR students from PR who study here: 5 are working on their PHD, 1 is working on MD/PHD, 3 are currently in PREP, 2 more will begin PHD next month. About 12 PR students are currently here for summer research and premed programs. If you want more information about PREP, call Joseph Williams at 216-368-0529 or Pete Spanos at 216-368-5655.
