Dear Colleagues, The National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI), at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) is currently seeking applicants for this year’s NHGRI Summer Workshop in Genomics (the “Short Course”) held August 2 – August 7, 2009. The Short Course is a unique opportunity for biology instructors, as well as other instructors and researchers in related disciplines, to attend an intensive, six-day course designed to provide updates in genomic science. The Short Course features presentations by leading NIH genomic researchers as well as extended tours of working laboratories at the NIH, and highly interactive sessions on related issues such as the ethical, legal and social implications of genomics. All applications will be reviewed by the Short Course Selection Committee. Interested faculty members are encouraged to apply early as class size is limited. Each successful Short Course applicant will be asked to select one promising student from the faculty member's institution to attend the NIH Genome Scholars Program (which is held concurrently). This program parallels the Short Course, and offers a close-up view of careers in genetic research while providing an enhanced mentoring experience. Genome Scholars are limited to one per accepted faculty member. Room and board are paid by NHGRI; participant schools pay travel costs for faculty participants, both to and from the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. For more information on the Short Course and how to apply, please visit: http://www.genome.gov/ShortCourse or email Edward Ramos at ramose@mail.nih.gov. The deadline for submitting applications is April 10, 2009. Please share this email and the attachment with your colleagues and prospective applicants and our apologies if you receive multiple announcements.
