The Ponce Health Sciences University (PHSU) is a fully accredited (Middle States, Liaison Committee Medical Education, Council of Higher Education), private, bilingual center of higher education located in the southern coastal city of Ponce, Puerto Rico. PHSU has a thriving and dynamic research program that is currently undergoing a period of aggressive growth, especially in cancer research. PHSU currently has a U54 NCI-funded partnership with the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, FL. This U54 PHSU/Moffitt Partnership encompasses several collaborative activities between both institutions, including the development of cancer research projects, student and faculty exchanges, career development programs and community outreach activities. PHSU has a Ph.D. program in Biomedical Sciences, and state-of-theart Animal Research Facilities, as well as Imaging, Molecular, Cell Culture, Tissue Biobanking and Cancer Core facilities. PHSU was founded 40 years ago. It is located in Ponce, a historical city on the southern coast of the island of Puerto Rico. Ponce is approximately 70 miles/100 kilometers from the capital city of San Juan, it is the tropical island’s second largest urban center with many cultural activities and close to important natural/ecological reserves.

We currently have a faculty position open: Community Outreach Cancer Researcher The Clinical Psychology and Basic Sciences Programs at PHSU invite applications for a full-time faculty position at the Assistant Professor level. We are seeking individuals with a Ph.D., DrPH, Psy.D. or equivalent degree, and postdoctoral research experience. The successful candidate should be experienced in public health, health education, and basic epidemiology, and will be expected to develop close research collaborations with the Community/Outreach component under the U54 PHSU/Moffitt Partnership. He or she is expected to develop a basic or translational, independent, multidisciplinary research program with focus on cancer. Experience with cancer disparities is desirable. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop research collaborations with basic and clinical faculty from PHSU and from Moffitt Cancer Center. The selected candidate will interact closely with the U54 Partnership Community Outreach Cores both in Ponce and in Tampa and with the Community Health Educator, also part of the U54 Partnership. Applicants should be fully bilingual (Spanish & English), should have a publication record and grant funding commensurate with their level of academic experience, and will be expected to contribute to the educational mission by teaching departmental team-taught courses and student mentoring.
