Job Title: Postdoctoral Researcher in Medicinal Chemistry

One postdoctoral research associate position will tentatively be available in the medicinal chemistry laboratory of Dr. Ajay Kumar in INBRE-NIH supported grant at the School of Environmental Affairs, Universidad Metropolitana, San Juan, PR, USA.

The goal of our research is to synthesize novel targeted and non targeted anti-tumor scaffolds and to understand their mode of action and molecular targets. We are particularly interested in understanding molecular targets of thus synthesized molecules using micro array gene analysis. We will use colon cancer cell lines to understand mode of action and in-vitro gene analysis.

We are looking for individual who are able to design and conduct experiments independently, have interest in novel hypotheses testing and the communication skills to supervise and train students in the laboratory. A successful candidate is expected to prepare and submit manuscripts to peer-reviewed journals supervise junior research members of the lab, management of the research lab and participate in seminars, conferences and weekly lab meetings. Expected start date is March 1, 2013.

Job Requirements:

The successful candidate should have strong expertise in synthetic organic chemistry, other preferred qualifications include experience in molecular and cell biology including cell culture, bioorganic chemistry, chiral synthesis, solid phase synthesis, in-silico gene analysis, in-vitro micro array gene analysis.

Applicants for postdoctoral research associate must have a Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D degree in the related fields with outstanding scientific accomplishments. Ideal candidates must be able to communicate in an excellent manner, effective judgment and problem solving with little or no supervision is imperative in all facets of this position; highly motivated and committed to academic biomedical research; strong attention to detail, multi-tasking; and a willingness to learn new technologies. Work passionately together with others, and write papers reliably. The qualified candidates are expected to work independently and as part of a team, with good written and oral communication skills. Salary is based upon qualifications.
