Society of General Physiologists 74th Annual Meeting and Symposium

Marine Biological Laboratory, Woods Hole, MA, September 9-13th, 2020

We are writing to let you know about the 2020 Annual Symposium of the Society of General Physiologists (SGP), entitled ‘Ion Channels and Transporters in Immunity, Inflammation and Antitumor Immunity’, which we are organizing. This conference will be a unique event because it is the first scientific meeting that brings together scientists studying ion channels and transporters in immune cells. Participants will discuss their research on the regulation, function and physiological roles of ion channels in innate and adaptive immunity. Leading scientists from academia and industry will present their latest research and pre- and postdoctoral trainees, supported by travel stipends, will have the opportunity to present posters.

Session topics include: (1) Ion Channelopathies Causing Immunodeficiency, (2) Ion Channels and Ionic Signals in Innate Immunity, (3) Ion Channels and Transporters Regulating Immunometabolism, (4) Ca2+ Channels as Regulators of Adapative Immunity, (5) Ion Channels in Macrophage and Neutrophil Function, (6) Ion Channels in Cancer and Antitumor Immunity, (7) Ion Channels and Transporters in T Lymphocyte Function, (8) Ion Channels in Inflammation and Neuroinflammation, (9) Ion Channels as Drug Targets in Immune Disease and Late-Breaking Topics.

We are privileged that a diverse group of scientists who are leaders in the ion channel and immunity field have accepted our invitation to participate in the conference. Michael Cahalan (University of California Irvine, USA) will deliver the keynote lecture. In addition, the program will feature 10 short talks, to be selected from submitted abstracts, and about 80-100 poster presentations. Several of the speakers and session chairs attending the conference are from traditionally underrepresented minorities in the biomolecular sciences. Our goal is to further increase the diversity of the meeting by inviting faculty, postdoctoral fellows and students from ethnically and culturally diverse backgrounds.

We are therefore reaching out to your organization with the request to distribute the information about this meeting on your website and announce our conference to your members. We would like to further improve the outreach of our conference, and would appreciate your advice in this matter. If you are able to announce the conference to your members on your website or through email, could you cc us in your email distribution please.

Please let me know if I can provide further information regarding the meeting.

Sincerely,
