Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Program in Astrophysics

Overview:

The Astronomy Department and the Astrophysics group of the Physics Department hope to host a Research Experiences for Undergraduates program in Astronomy and Astrophysics for several students for the ten weeks from May 28th to August 3rd, 2019.  Seven participants will work in Madison with researchers in the Astronomy Department and the Astrophysics group of the Physics Department. Projects may include work in the following areas: X-ray instrumentation and astrophysics, neutrino astrophysics, observational studies of stars and the interstellar medium, and extragalactic astronomy. 

Eligibility: 

Participants must be U.S. citizens, U.S. national, or permanent residents.  We highly value diversity among our participants; women, members of under-represented minority groups (i.e., African-Americans, Hispanic Americans, Native Americans, Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians, other Pacific Islanders, students with disabilities, first-generation college students, and U.S. veterans), and students from small colleges, including community colleges, are all encouraged to apply.

Support:

Our REU program includes a stipend of $5000 and food allowance, as well as reasonable travel expenses to/from Madison. Students will be housed in nearby apartments with those participating in other UW-Madison summer research programs. REU will also have access to university resources, such as the campus library system, campus recreational facilities, bus passes, and student health facilities.
