The National Council of La Raza (NCLR) Puerto Rico office is seeking two graduate or senior-year undergraduate students (with at least a 3.4 GPA) interested in doing social, education, demographic, public policy, public health, and/or communications research in any of the following topic areas related to children in Puerto Rico: Child demographics Child abuse and neglect Child issues legislation School assessment statistics Children portrayal in media This is a great opportunity for a student majoring in social sciences (sociology, psychology, political sciences, and social work), public health, education, communications, or other related fields. These are six- to 12-month internships (stipend of $10/hr) with a work time requirement of 20 hours per week. In addition, the selected individual(s) will gain: Professional experience in research Access to database resources Opportunities to publish research at local and national levels Letter of recommendation, based on evaluation of performance The candidate(s) should have strong computer skills and a thorough command of the English language, both written and spoken. Experience with word processing (Word), spreadsheet (Excel), and presentation (PowerPoint) applications, as well as Internet proficiency, are essential. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Outlook and an undergraduate statistics class are necessary. In addition, the candidate(s) should possess the ability to work independently and the flexibility to handle multiple tasks. Previous office experience is preferred.
