Responsive applications will be distinguished by an innovative plan to accomplish the following, minimal objectives during the two-year, U24 project period:
develop a leadership and administrative structure for the network
develop an infrastructure (physical and/or virtual) for the mentoring network that spans institutions/organizations and thus would serve as the basis for a national mentoring network in the chosen scientific content area
develop content and tools appropriate to the goals of the mentoring network
identify a pool of qualified researchers who meet the network’s eligibility criteria and commit to serve as mentors
formulate a recruitment plan that will provide a sufficient pool of potential high-quality protégés who meet the network’s eligibility criteria and formulate a retention plan that will serve the stated goals of the mentoring network
develop procedures for standardization of mentoring activities and outcomes
identify a set of outcome measures that will be used to assess whether this planning grant has achieved its objectives
pilot the network
