CALL FOR TENURE-TRACK JOINT FACULTY POSITION 2014-2015

Department of Business Administration & Institute for Interdisciplinary Research

UNIVERSITY OF PUERTO RICO, CAYEY CAMPUS

The University of Puerto Rico at Cayey requests applications for a tenure-track joint appointment position between the Department of Business Administration and the Institute for Interdisciplinary Research. The person will devote 50% of time to each unit.

Candidates must meet all of the following requirements:

  • PhD or D.B.A in Business Administration, Statistics, Economics or Industrial Psychology and a Master's or solid training in statistics, quantitative methods and econometrics (*)
  • Extensive knowledge and experience managing GIS and population-census data.
  • Experience in sampling and instrument design.
  • Experience conducting applied and interdisciplinary research projects
  • Experience developing research grants
  • Recent (or in press) peer-reviewed publications 

* Solid training means 15 or more graduate-level credits in the areas of statistics, quantitative methods or econometrics.

Applicants must be able to communicate in Spanish after four years. The General Bylaws of the University of Puerto Rico (2006 - Article 46) establish that a professor who is not proficient in Spanish can be hired, but the ability to communicate fluently in Spanish after four years of teaching at the Institution is a condition for tenure. 

Starting base salary is  $62,256, plus benefits.

Priority will be given to candidates with a D.B.A in Business Administration with a concentration in Statistics, Quantitative Methods or Econometrics.

Candidates with the following qualifications will also be considered:

  • D.B.A in Business Administration with a concentration in International Business, Management, Economics, Operations Management, Marketing, Finance, Human Resources or Accounting with expertise and solid training in statistics or quantitative methods.
  • PhD in Statistics, Economics, or Industrial Psychology with a master or solid training in statistics and quantitative methods.

* Solid training means 15 or more graduate-level credits in the areas of statistics, quantitative methods or econometrics.

Priority will be given to candidates with the following qualifications:

  • Experience with research projects that integrate population statistics and spatial analysis.
  • Applied research experience in communities or collaborations with researchers that do this type of research.
  • Obtaining grants in their field.
  • Mentoring students in research projects.
  • Knowledge of various research methodologies, design of research instruments, databases, sampling, and presentation of results.
  • Research interests in one or more of the following areas: Business Administration and other topics such as health, the environment, education, and inequality (class, race, gender, etc.)
  • Candidates with a degree of no more than 9 years (2005 or later)

Only candidates who have knowledge and experience managing GIS data and population census will be considered.

It is expected that the selected candidate:

  • Strengthen and develop the Census Information Center (CIC) and the laboratory of environmental mapping and spatial analysis (Lab 313) of the Institute for Interdisciplinary Research at UPR- Cayey.
  • Develop relevant research projects of interest to students in the Department of Business Administration.
  • Develop research of pertinence to the UPR-C service region (Cayey, Aibonito, Cidra, Caguas, Aguas Buenas, Patillas, Arroyo, Guayama, Salinas, Coamo, and Barranquitas).
  • Submit proposals for external funding.
  • Publish at least two articles in peer-reviewed journals during the five-year probationary period 
  • Teach a maximum of two courses per semester
  • Provide technical support in GIS, census and statistical advice to students and teachers

Tenure evaluation:

The tenure evaluation of the professor with a joint appointment  will be conducted by a joint committee composed of members from the personnel committees that are competent in the units served by the professor, as established in the General Bylaws of the University of Puerto Rico. In the appointment letter, clear criteria for tenure will be established (in addition to those listed in this notice) relating to research, and other academic duties.
