Bienvenidos a CienciaPR, una red de recursos para todos los interesados en las ciencias y en Puerto Rico.
I am a seismologist/geophysicist working on the application of seismological methods to scientific problems in the Puerto Rico - Virgin Islands area and Caribbean region. I obtained both B.S. and M.S. from the Department of Geology at the University of Puerto Rico - Mayagüez in 1997 and 2000, respectively. Then I moved to Evanston Illinois to obtain in 2006 a Ph.D. from the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at Northwestern University. My thesis advisors were Dr. Emile Okal and Dr. Seth Stein. Upon completion of the Ph.D., I moved to Woods Hole, MA for two years where I worked as a USGS Mendenhall Postdoctoral Fellow working with Uri ten Brink. I currently hold a temporary Assistant Professor appointment with the Geology Department at the University of Puerto Rico - Mayagüez.
I am married with 1 child
Research Interests: Seismology, Plate Tectonics Boundary, Crustal Deformation, GPS, Tsunamis, Slow Earthquakes, Historical Earthquakes, Seismic Swarms
1) Study of Seismic Swarms northeast Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands using land and Ocean Bottom Seismometer data to constrain nature of seismic activity at depth.
2) Northern Lesser Antilles tectonics and crustal deformation using seismicity and gps geodesy to describe forearc sliver motions.
3) Tsunami modeling from landslide and dislocative sources near the Puerto Rico - Virgin Islands area.
4) Corrections to Energy distribution of seismic sources from directivity effects.
