Ciencia Puerto Rico

Raised in the Bronx,I found my love for science and bowties by watching Bill Nye the Science Guy every afternoon. In 7th grade I decided I wanted to be a scientist… whatever that meant. At Mount Holyoke College, I fell in love with a cytoskeletal protein called actin. Realizing I was afraid of needles and blood, I decided to attend graduate school rather than medical school. I received my Ph.D. in Cell and Molecular Biology and now currently a Postdoctural Associate at the Yale School of Medicine under the direction of Dr. Daniel Colon-Ramos.

In addition to being a scientist, I am passionate about mentoring, teaching, and giving back to my community. Throughout my career, I have been award many fellowship that allowed me to feed these passions such as the HHMI Cascade Mentoring Fellowship from Mount Holyoke College and the GK-12 fellowship to teach middle school students in Newark, NJ.

Additionally I have been involved with outreach programs such as Liberty LEADS that is dedicated to preparing underrepresented students of color for college. I also participate in social justice movements that center around Black and Latino communities issues.
