Bienvenidos a CienciaPR, una red de recursos para todos los interesados en las ciencias y en Puerto Rico.
I graduated from University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez (¡COLEGIO!) with a BS in Microbiology in 2002. I did my PhD in the lovely Yale Univeristy in New Haven, CT. So you see, it was meant for me to be forever a bulldog, or so it seems. After I'm done, I'm interested in parting with active research for a while, and try my luck at teaching, or even try to get a industry job, we'll see.
I worked in experimental evolution. I am particularly interested in ecological history and its impact on community evolution, competitive ability and disease emergence. I have many a project going, mainly in E. coli and VSV systems. I focused on the repeatability of defective interfering particules in evolved lines of VSV and trying to patch up some stuff so I can finally write up the manuscript and be done with that chapter... Other projects involve competitive ability and its cost on fitness, generalists and specialist and their role in disease emergence and last but not least, try to develop a system to test some aspects of the enemy-release hypothesis.
