Bienvenidos a CienciaPR, una red de recursos para todos los interesados en las ciencias y en Puerto Rico.
M.S. in Cellular Biology at the University of Georgia on the characterization of a vacuolar proton ATPase in the model apicomplexan Toxoplasma gondii. I also worked in the study of Rab proteins localizing to the plant-like vacuole (PLV) of this parasite, a novel compartment we identified and characterized as an important organelle for the survival of the extracellular tachyzoite stage (Miranda et al., 2010; http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20398214). My research work at UGA was done under the supervision of doctors Silvia NJ Moreno and Roberto Docampo (http://docampo_moreno.ctegd.uga.edu/).
M.S. in Microbiology and Medical Zoology at the University of Puerto Rico Medical Sciences Campus (UPR-MSC) on the study of the evolution of the Plasmodia ATP-binding cassette superfamily and partial characterization of an ABCG homologue gene in Plasmodium berghei. This project was done under the direction of Dr. Adelfa E. Serrano and with the collaboration of doctors Ricardo González-Méndez (Radiological Sciences Department, UPR-MSC), Hugh B. Nicholas Jr. (Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center), Dannie Durand and Benjamin Vernot (Carnegie Mellon University).
Currently, I work as a Bioinformatics Scientist at the CDC's National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases - Influenza Division. This is a contract research position with the Battelle Memorial Institute, a charitable trust funded since 1929 with the purpose to advance science, technology and education.
