Approximately 150 students from 18 public and private middle schools participated Saturday, March 23 in the state Mathcounts competition.

Engineer Gabriel Echandi, Mathcounts coordinator in Puerto Rico, said that this competition is organized by the National Society of Professional Engineers and is cosponsored by the Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico, which hosted the activity.

YAP a college preparatory and leadership program encourages graduating high school seniors to explore a wide range of academic and career opportunities through the lens of the Latino experience.

The team Microgravity Center for Advanced Nanoscale Materials (Micro-G CANM 2) from the Chemistry Department at the Natural Sciences School at the University of Puerto Rico was one of 5 teams selected to run experiments on zero gravity at the NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas last week. The team of students was led by Dr. Carlos Cabrera.
