The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is offering faculty and students at Minority Serving Institutions an opportunity to participate in a ten-week summer research team experience at university-based DHS Centers of Excellence as part of its DHS Summer Research Program for Minority Serving Institutions.

Located in historic Old San Juan, the Institute of Neurobiology has established the Puerto Rico Center for Environmental Neuroscience, becoming a pioneer in this emerging field.

Every organism, from flies to humans, experiences their surroundings through the nervous system.  The senses, specialized parts of that nervous system, allow organisms to explore and respond to an ever-changing environment.  The ability to interact with, respond and adapt to an environment and its changes is a key feature for any organism’s survival.

En el Recinto de Ciencias Médicas (RCM) de la Universidad de Puer to Rico se realiza una importante investigación que busca diagnosticar y tratar preventivamente a las personas que sufren pérdida de memoria por causa del Virus de Inmunodeficiencia Humana (VIH). El estudio liderado por la doctora Loyda Meléndez, tiene como propósito evaluar el mecanismo de acción de las proteínas celulares relacionadas con la pérdida de la memoria causada por el VIH.
