The Siemens Foundation established the Siemens Competition in Math, Science & Technology in 1999. The Competition is the nation’s premiere science research competition for high school students and seeks to promote excellence by encouraging students to undertake individual or team research projects.

The Environmental Quality Board, recognized the organization Scientific Youth of Ponce, made up of students from the Bernardino Cordero Bernard Vocational School, for their project aimed at protecting butterflies.

With the help of the Arecibo Observatory, international astronomers recently discovered that the temperature in the center of a quasar, an astronomic source of electromagnetic energy, could be more than 10 trillion grades, negating the established theory of 100 billion grades.
