Center for Industrial Biotechnology Learning wins 2006 Innovation prize

Cited from Prensa RUM The prize will be handed out on June 4th, 2006 at the Southern Innovation Summit in New Orleans, LA. The Southern Growth Policies Board was founded by the southern US governors in 1971 for the development and advance of policies that strengthen the economical development of the region. "The Center for Industrial Biotechnology Learning is one of the best initiatives that UPRM has developed. Is a successful project that integrates the university, the government and the private industry", indicated Dr. Jorge Iván Vélez Arocho, chancellor of UPRM. CABI, headed by Dr. Rosa Buxeda and Dr. Lorenzo Saliceti is a collaboration between UPRM and companies like Amgen, Lilly, Pall Life Sciences, Inseco, Ochoa Industrial Sales and Taratec, among others. In the past two years, CABI has trained 400 employees for several biotechnology industries, which requires an interdisciplinary effort between the Sciences and Engineering faculties. “Buxeda and Saliceti assured that CABI is a place for the exchange of knowledge and skills between the university and the biotechnology companies, that contributes to the knowledge bio-economy of Puerto Rico."
