APPLYTO COVID-19 BILINGUAL COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST

OVERVIEW

The CDC Foundation seeks candidates for a bilingual Communications Specialist to be based in San Juan, Puerto Rico. This position collaborates with teams and individuals to create infection prevention strategies. The candidate would be responsible for creating and disseminating messages that help both individuals and groups understand health and illness, provide feedback, and sustain infection prevention strategies to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Candidate will work on-site at client premises.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Able to fully communicate in Spanish and English – reading, writing, speaking
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication.    
  • Proficient use of different computer programs (Microsoft Office).    
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated success as a team player.     
  • Ability to interact with individuals from a variety of disciplines and backgrounds.    
  • The candidate should have a keen ability to lead science-based health communication and marketing programs, campaigns, and translation activities using multiple channels and addressing targeted or broad audiences across a variety of health literacy, socioeconomic, racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds. 
  • Demonstrated mastery of communication and marketing principles, and the ability to apply such mastery to strategic solutions that advance the communication goals of the agency. 
  • Excellent oral and written communicator and can remain calm and professional under stress.
  • Cultural competency 
  • Strong organizational skills and highly capable of tracking, summarizing and reporting activities.    

 

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing or a related field plus five or more years of relevant experience

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Advance efforts around strategic communication planning 
  • Develop press releases, speeches, brochures, briefs, fact sheets and other documents as needed
  • Establish good working relationships with the media and the public and to maintain those relationships by answering queries promptly, arranging interviews or speakers when requested and involve presence at community events.
  • Develop strategies to identify and address emerging public health and brand/reputation issues impacting the agency, including issues relating to emerging public health crises, mis/dis information, as well as potentially negative coverage of CDC, its employees and the CDC brand;  
  • develop and implement recommendations to proactively address risks as part of overall agency-level strategic communication and enterprise risk management efforts; and
  • work with other risk communication leaders in the agency in development of risk communication products, including communication tools and trainings, articles and papers, and other activities to educate audiences on CDC tools and techniques in support of CDC's established role as a leader in this area.  
  • Ensure communication activities are based on accepted principles, methods, and best practices. 
  • Attend internal and external meetings as requested.    
  • Complete assigned deliverables, including required reports, within established time frames.    
  • Manage project work, as needed, including quality assurance and deliverable compliance.    
  • Other duties as assigned.
