Sacramento State welcomes applicants to our Master of Arts program in Stem Cell Research, a Professional Science Master’s (PSM) Program. PSMs are innovative graduate degrees designed to allow students to pursue advanced training in science without a Ph.D., while simultaneously developing highly valued professional skills.

Our Stem Cell Research PSM is characterized by a combination of rigorous skills-based coursework in cell and molecular biology (at Sacramento State) and a research internship (at UC Davis) focused on stem cell research that culminates in a final project for the degree.

PSM graduates are eligible for exciting, well-compensated careers in science; employers of recent PSM graduates in the biosciences range from large, multinational pharmaceutical companies to start-up biotechnology companies.

Advanced coursework and research experience prepare graduates for immediate success as:

  • Laboratory managers in stem cell and biotechnology laboratories
  • Staff research associates in cutting-edge research laboratories at universities
  • Doctoral candidates in applied biology

Finally, at Sacramento State we embrace diversity and understand that bringing people of diverse backgrounds together will improve scientific innovation. A prominent goal of our Stem Cell Research Program is to promote diversity within our program and the broader scientific community. To that end, students who are from underserved or underrepresented groups should feel encouraged to apply.
