The Rabb Lab is currently in search for a research technician to assist with day-to-day experiments and lab maintenance. Please see below description of job opportunity:

General Summary/Purpose

We are seeking a qualified and motivated individual to work as a laboratory technician to support exciting research projects on T cell immunology in acute kidney injury in the Division of Nephrology at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. The laboratory is actively exploring roles of different subsets of T cells in AKI pathogenesis and repair. In addition to T cells we are also interested in other molecular and cellular processes that modulate acute kidney injury pathophysiology. A research technician is needed to assist with small animal models and in vitro experiments using immunological, molecular and cellular laboratory techniques. Additionally, the successful candidate must be organized and detailed while handling data acquisition, data analysis, animal handling, and record keeping in the laboratory.

Specific duties & responsibilities:

  • He/she must follow established protocols to perform experiments using immunological, molecular and cellular assays. Ideally, the lab technician should have experience in cell culture/cell separation, molecular biology techniques such as DNA/RNA isolation and PCR/real-time PCR, flow cytometric analysis of immune cells and flow data analysis, as well as other functional and enzymatic assays.
  • He/She will be responsible for assisting postdocs and faculty with preparation and conducting animal surgeries. He/she will monitor the animal’s recovery from surgery and provides post-operative care.
  • He/She will purchase, monitor and inventory reagents, animals and general lab supplies for postdocs and faculty.
  • He/She should maintain a careful records of all experiments performed and assessment of quality of data generated is critical.
  • Ensure laboratory efficiency by following set protocols for lab cleanliness, organization and safety regulations.
  • He/She should have excellent interpersonal, time management, written and oral communication, and organizational skills. He/She should have cooperative and positive attitude toward work and ability to work independently when necessary.

Qualifications:

Master’s degree in immunology, molecular biology or other related biological sciences. Previous laboratory experience with animal research and flow cytometry is preferred.
