New drug to treat invasive breast cancer

Initial results of an investigation conducted by the Oncological Hospital and the San Juan Community Clinical Program of Puerto Rico’s capital, "revealed that a drug, until now used to prevent osteoporosis, could reduce the incidence of invasive breast cancer in women in 50%."

The University of Puerto Rico-Mayagüez expands its territory to Rio Piedras and Humacao

An agreement reached between the University of Puerto Rico-Mayagüez (UPRM) and its counterparts in Rio Piedras (San Juan) and Humacao, will allow undergraduate students to take the first two years of engineering in those campuses, then transferring and finishing their degrees in UPRM.

The conference "Puerto Ricans and cancer: the unequal burden", held May 10-12, 2006 in Carolina, PR, gathered "Puerto Rican investigators, from the island and of the United States, that work with Puerto Rican populations, so that collaborations can be established, inform about advances everyone is making and learn what needs to be done."

"3,500 tadpoles of the Puerto Rican crested toad (sapo concho), coming from Texas, will be released on Thursday in the Karst, so they can live there and help control plagues. The crested toad is an endangered endemic Puerto Rican species."
