EPA Seeks Applications for 2024 President’s Environmental Student and Teacher Awards

WASHINGTON — U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Michael S. Regan recently announced that EPA’s Office of Environmental Education is requesting applications for the 2024 President’s Environmental Youth Awards (PEYA) and Presidential Innovation Awards for Environmental Educators (PIAEE).

Robert I. Larus Award for Outstanding Science Research by a Graduate Student

The Caribbean Division of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) is now accepting abstracts for The Robert I. Larus Award poster competition by a Graduate Student. This award will be given to a graduate student who has demonstrated excellence in research in the natural, physical, or social sciences given to a graduate student that demonstrates excellence in scientific research.

Professor at UPR Mayagüez receives recognition after being nominated by his students

Lugo Hernández, professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Puerto Rico Mayagüez Campus (RUM), became the first Puerto Rican to receive the Elizabeth Hurlock Beckman Award Trust, which is granted to professors who have inspired their students to make a difference in their communities.

Young Borinqueña wins poster competition at the annual American Society for Cell Biology meeting

Congratulations to Yaliz Loperena Álvarez from the Central University of the Caribbean for winning third place on the poster competition sponsored by the Minority Affairs Committee at the American Society for Cell Biology Meeting held in Philadelphia from December 6th-10th, 2014.

Yaliz is a doctoral student in Dr. Michelle Martínez Montemayor’s laboratory at the UCC and she studies the mechanism by which the Reishi mushroom attacks cancer cells in inflammatory breast cancer.
