After 14 years of studying the anticancer effects of the medicinal mushroom Ganoderma lucidum, Dr. Michelle Martínez Montemayor achieved “the dream of every researcher”: to contribute with new technologies to the health of human beings, in her case, through the development of a drug.

Researchers of the UMET achieve a patent that benefits cancer patients.

Two professors from the School of Environmental Affairs of the Metropolitan University (UMET) discovered biomarkers that identify cancer cells with little oxygenation. This discovery was certified by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and will benefit in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer patients.

The Susan G. Komen organization designated Dr. Bárbara Segarra Vázquez, Dean from the School of Health Professional at the UPR-School of Medicine, as a research advisor. In her new role, Dr. Segarra will work on the development of educational, research and public health initiatives at a global level.
