The University of Puerto Rico at Rio Piedras through an initiative of the Center for Applied Tropical Ecology and Conservation (CATEC) will be the first academic institution to develop a tool for projects of ecology restoration of coral reefs.

Puma Energy, Corredor del Yaguazo y UPR-Río Piedras unite in collaborative agreement. 

Cataño, P.R., March 29, 2016- Puma Energy Caribe, the Corredor del Yaguazo, Inc. and the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Campus (UPR-RP) signed a collaborative agreement to contribute to the conservation of Ciénagas Las Cucharillas and the community development of Juana Matos.

Graduate student Fabiola Areces created a website to document the flora at El Yunque. The project Flora Virtual El Verde was lead by James Ackerman and Elvia Meléndez at the University of Puerto Rico- Río Piedras Campus and funded by Fondo Institucional para la Investigación (FIPI) ,  Biological Research Collections at NSF and Centro de Ecología Tropical Aplicada y Conservación (CATEC).
