This past June and July, Ciencia Puerto Rico was fortunate to host three interns of the PARACa (from the Spanish acronym for Empowerment and Retention of Agents of Change) Summer VISTA Fellowship 2023 (PARACa). We want to congratulate Isaac Correa Pagán, Natalia Ramos Rivera, and Marylys Rivera for successfully completing their internships and thank them for their valuable contributions to our team!

Ciencia Puerto Rico (CienciaPR) is proud to announce that Dr. Greetchen Díaz Muñoz, Director of Science Education Programs and Community Partnerships has been selected as an AAAS (American Association for the Advancement of Science) IF/THEN® Ambassador. IF/THEN®, a national initiative of Lyda Hill Philanthropies, seeks to further women in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) through empowering current innovators and inspiring the next generation of pioneers.

CienciaPR’s Director of Science Education Programs is up for re-election to ASM’s Board of Directors

Dr. Greetchen Díaz-Muñoz, Director of Science Education Programs and Community Partnerships for CienciaPR, is a candidate for re-election to the Board of Directors of the American Society for Microbiology (ASM). Díaz Muñoz was the first Puerto Rican and Latina to have been elected into the new governance of ASM and has served on the board for almost two years. Her re-election would extend her term for an additional 3 years. Díaz Muñoz is also the past president of the Society of Microbiologists of Puerto Rico, the local branch of ASM in Puerto Rico.

Meet our new Education Programs Specialist!

The CienciaPR staff continues to grow! We want to officially welcome Elvin Estrada, who during joined the Ciencia Puerto Rico team as Educational Programs Specialist and Social Media Coordinator, this March.

Elvin received his bachelor's degree in Biomedical Sciences from Interamerican University and a master's degree in Biotechnology from the Pontificial Catholic University of Puerto Rico. He has more than 4 years of experience in the areas of scientific research and digital marketing. Before joining the CienciaPR staff, Elvin worked as a biologist in the Department of Medical Entomology of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in San Juan, Puerto Rico, in a research project aimed at to the prevention of the transmission of the Zika virus.
