Innovative Programs to Enhance Research Training (IPERT)


Principal Investigators: Dr. Isar P. Godreau (UPR-Cayey), Dr. Mariluz Franco (UPR-Cayey) and Dr. Raymond Tremblay (UPR-Humacao)

General objective: To offer a training and support program for students and professors that strengthens the capacity of the UPR and other universities to carry out competitive, sustainable, interdisciplinary research on biomedical and social aspects that affect health. Provide students with the training and experience necessary to continue advanced studies in areas related to health. The UPR-IPERT program is sponsored by the National Institutes of Health, a federal agency known by its acronym in English as the NIH and its institute, National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS).



We are looking for students from low-income families enrolled in Social Sciences and Natural Sciences programs.

We promote persistence to overcome personal, social and academic challenges.

We teach research skills to develop successful health professionals and researchers.

We encourage participation in community projects, social and scientific commitment.
