Welcome to CienciaPR, an expert and resource network for all who are interested in science and Puerto Rico.
My name is Alberto Tierrez and I am working as a postdoctoral researcher in the Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Cardiovasculares (CNIC) in Madrid, Spain. I am a veterinarian and I have always been very interested in research and molecular biology. During my PhD I studied two bacterial pathogens, Listeria monocytogenes and Salmonella typhimurium and their molecular mechanisms involved in host colonization. This period allowed me to improve my skills in molecular biology techniques and specially, in cloning due to the generation of several homologous recombination mutants in bacteria. Afterwards, I decided to employ my postdoctoral stage in learning more of the the eukaryotic biology in disease so I spent one year in the Rheumatology Lab. in Hospital La Paz working with Arthritis Rheumatoid patients and learning immunology techniques. Finally, I moved to the National Centre of Cardiovasular Diseaes, where I am working in oxidative stress protection systems in different cell types. This last stage has allowed me to improve my knowlegde and skills in molecular biology techniques appIied to eukaryotic cells.
