Welcome to CienciaPR, an expert and resource network for all who are interested in science and Puerto Rico.
I graduated from the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez Campus (UPRM) in the year 2006 with a Microbiology B.S. degree. That same year in September I started my PhD through the ACCESS Program (Programs in the Molecular, Cellular and integrative life sciences) at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA). Then, I joined Dr. Esteban Dell'Angelica's lab at the Department of Human Genetics, UCLA in which I obtained a PhD. Currently, I am a postdoctoral fellow in the lab of Dr. Heinrich Jasper at the Buck Institute for Research on Aging in Novato, CA. When not doing research I serve as the President of the Buck Institute Postdoctoral Association.
I am interested in understanding how adult somatic stem cells maintain their protein homeostasis (also known as proteostasis) and why this capacity is lost during the aging process.
