The Yale Ciencia Initiative team is seeking a recent grad student or young professional for a Research Associate position with the Yale Ciencia Initiative (YCI), a collaborative team within Yale School of Medicine's Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) dedicated to designing and leading innovative programs that broaden access to STEM and health training and careers and that promote supportive research environments for all, particularly scientists from historically minoritized, marginalized and excluded backgrounds.

The group is led by Dr. Giovanna Guerrero-Medina, who is also the Executive Director of Ciencia Puerto Rico and the Assistant Director for DEI for the Wu Tsai Institute and the team features diverse experts in DEI, science communication, and professional development and strong partnerships with groups like CienciaPR and iBiology. The YCI group is responsible for developing and leading programs such as the Yale Ciencia Academy, the Program to Advance Training in Health and Science (PATHS), and the UPR-Yale MD/PhD Collaborative Program, and the Intersections Science Fellows Symposium.

The Research Associate will help us coordinate and lead various aspects of the Yale Ciencia Academy, manage the UPR-Yale MD/PhD program, be involved in other exciting projects across Yale, and contribute to publications and grant writing for additional opportunities. This is a great position for someone who would like to make a transition from the bench to a career in the design and administration of STEM training, DEI, mentoring, and/or professional development programs. In fact, we have had great success recruiting recent graduate students with a commitment to change systems to make the sciences more welcoming and inclusive. This position will give you opportunity to innovate, grow, and be promoted. A recent Research Associate developed a new intervention for research advisors and was recently promoted to Program Specialist.

We particularly seek someone who has a demonstrated track record of advancing DEI (including through volunteering or students activities); is creative and ambitious with respect to their career and impact; is proactive, organized, and responsible; has excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills in English (English + Spanish would be preferred); can communicate and interact with both expert and non-expert audiences; is comfortable with a range of software and technology; and is an independent thinker and collaborative and inclusive team member.

The projected starting salary is beyond a Level 4 NIH postdoctoral stipend! Applicants must be based in CT or at least willing to relocate. That said, there is flexibility in work hours and telework arrangements and we can assist with relocation expenses.
