The AD will provide leadership and broad strategic vision for all areas related to diversity in graduate education and postdoctoral training in the Duke School of Medicine. The AD will advise the Vice Dean of Basic Sciences, to whom he/she will report directly, and will also be expected to coordinate with and receive guidance from the School’s Chief Diversity Officer to ensure alignment with broader diversity and inclusion strategy and initiatives. The AD will partner with basic science departmental leaders, and support faculty in their efforts to promote student success. The AD will oversee staff who will work to create and maintain a strong and supportive community for underrepresented PhD students and postdoctoral fellows in the Basic Sciences of the School. He/she will coordinate with faculty and other units to provide relevant academic programs, professional development activities, and wellness programs in collaboration with the Office of Diversity and Inclusion. The AD and staff will also collect data to enable assessment of the impact of these efforts on the Duke community.
