Tenure-Track Faculty Position in Molecular Biology

The Biology Department at Lewis & Clark College invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professorship in molecular biology to begin Fall 2017. We seek a colleague who shares our enthusiasm for providing students from diverse backgrounds with outstanding teaching, research, and mentoring in science. Candidates should be committed to excellent teaching and to developing a productive, externally funded research program involving undergraduates. The ideal candidate will establish a research program that uses experimental approaches to investigate the molecular mechanisms that underlie the regulation of gene expression (for example, chromatin modifications, epigenetics, noncoding RNAs) and/or genome integrity and stability. Teaching expectations include five semester-long lecture courses or laboratory sections each academic year. These courses will include molecular biology with an investigative laboratory, one other upper division course in an area related to their specialty, rotating responsibility in our core biology course Investigations in Cell and Molecular Biology, and contributions to the College’s general education program. A Ph.D. is required, and postdoctoral experience is preferred. The successful candidate will have a joint appointment in the Biology Department and the Biochemistry/Molecular Biology Program. The College’s PHS certification does not currently cover the care and use of mammals in research, so candidates who study microbes, plants, or non-mammalian animals are preferable.
