The National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), are seeking a tenure-eligible physician-scientist to lead a joint program focusing on basic, translational, and/or clinical research in neuro-oncology. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and lead a collaborative program that will improve the clinical outcomes of CNS malignancies. The successful candidate must have a M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degree and should have substantial experience (documented by an extensive publication record) and demonstrated success in training and leadership. The position provides salary and full funding for a translational research program, including laboratory and office space, budget, support staff, and research infrastructure. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
The Center for Cancer Research (CCR) is the intramural research component of the National Cancer Institute (NCI). CCR’s enabling infrastructure facilitates clinical studies at the NIH Clinical Center, the world’s largest dedicated clinical research complex; provides extensive opportunities for collaboration; and allows scientists and clinicians to undertake high-risk, high-impact laboratory- and clinic-based investigations. Investigators are supported by a wide array of intellectual, technological, and research resources, including surgical and pathology facilities, animal facilities, and dedicated, high-quality technology cores in areas such as imaging/microscopy, chemistry/purification, mass spectrometry, flow cytometry, genomics/ DNA sequencing, transgenics and knock out mice, arrays/molecular profiling, and human genetics/bioinformatics. In particular, NINDS has an active neurosurgery program with an interest in translational work in neuro-oncology.
