A postdoctoral position is available at the University of Puerto Rico – Mayagüez (UPRM) to work in the areas of particulates, transport processes and colloidal sciences. The postdoctoral scholar will study, at a fundamental level, self-motion and diffusion of a wide range of catalytically driven colloidal particles under different conditions. This work will be conducted under the supervision of Dr. Ubaldo M. Córdova-Figueroa from the Department of Chemical Engineering at UPRM and his collaborator Dr. Ayusman Sen from the Department of Chemistry at Penn State University. Successful applicants will be responsible for deriving models and performing simulations of these particles, as well as proposing new experiments in this field.

We are seeking candidates who are highly motivated and career-oriented. The position is available immediately. The candidate is expected to have a PhD in Physics, Applied Mathematics, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline. The candidate is expected to be exceptional at fluid mechanics, colloidal hydrodynamics, theoretical/computational soft matter, and advance computational and programming skills. The candidate will also be required to write proposals, manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals, and make technical presentations at national and international conferences.

Salary, benefits and visa sponsorship: The initial appointment will be for a period of 9 to 12 months, renewal will be granted at this period based on satisfactory performance and the availability of funds. The salary is approximately $37,000 per year. UPRM will sponsor a visa for non-US citizens/permanent residents if they are found to be eligible candidates.
