Position available for a full-time Research Technician interested in projects related to psychiatric genetics and genomics. The technician will dedicate the majority of their time to assisting Dr. Giusti-Rodríguez with molecular biology and genetics research, which will include DNA and RNA isolation and purification, DNA amplification, various functional genomics assays, and library preparation for high-throughput sequencing. The technician will also assist the PI with organizing the lab as well as ordering reagents, supplies, and equipment maintenance. Additional duties as assigned.
Dr. Giusti-Rodríguez is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Florida. Her research focuses on three major themes:
1. Expand our understanding of the genetic architecture of psychiatric disorders by increasing the number of research participants of non-European ancestry.
2. Employ functional genomics approaches to move from disease-associated SNPs to genes, and to explore potential regulatory mechanisms.
3. Use neuroscience approaches to expand our biological understanding of psychiatric genetic findings and epigenetic processes at play.
Preferred qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in a life science or related field. Preference will be given to candidates with previous laboratory experience.
