The National Cancer Institute (NCI) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is seeking a physician for its Thoracic Surgery Program. The successful candidate will come through the NCI’s Center for Cancer Research (CCR) Clinical Investigator Development Program, a training opportunity for physicians interested in dedicating their careers to clinical oncology research. CCR is nationally recognized for excellence in clinical research training and clinical research, all conducted in the state-of-the-art Clinical Research Center in Bethesda, Md.
The goal of the program is to assist board-eligible/board-certified translational researchers to transition from a mentored position to an independent investigator in patient-oriented research so that they will be highly competitive for tenure-track appointments in academia or comparable positions in government and industry. The successful candidate must have a M.D. and will receive a 3-year appointment; competitive salary commensurate with subspecialty training and experience; dedicated laboratory space, if needed, and an independent budget; travel and training funds; and access to an extensive infrastructure including research nursing, data-management support, animal facilities, core services, and advanced technologies. An attractive federal government employee benefit package includes health and life insurance coverage, a retirement savings program, and relocation expenses. Student loan repayment is possible through the NIH.
