VISITING ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF BIOLOGY, INCLUSIVE EDUCATION SPECIALIST

 

The Department of Biology at Lawrence University invites applications for a full-time Visiting Assistant Professor as an Inclusive Education Specialist beginning September 1, 2019. This two- year position is being funded by a grant from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute to support inclusive STEM education. Responsibilities include 60% teaching in the candidate's area of expertise (including but not limited to organismal biology, cell or molecular biology, ecology, or computational biology) and 40% as a pedagogical innovator. The successful candidate will be expected to collaborate with members of the Biology Department in building inclusive learning modules particularly for introductory biology courses. The successful candidate will have experience in inclusive learning pedagogies, including but not limited to the use of flipped- classroom activities, building decolonized curricula, mitigation of stereotype threat, or building agency and growth mindset in a diverse group of students. Laboratory space, funds to support research, and support for professional development will be made available. We encourage applications from individuals who will help us create a more inclusive Lawrence by: (1) further diversifying the faculty; and/or (2) demonstrating experience with successful diversity-related initiatives, creative activity or research; in addition to helping us to develop inclusive pedagogies to address the needs of a diverse student body.

 

Candidates with a Ph.D. in Biology, Science Education, or related fields are welcome to apply.
