Ann-Marie Parkes is the programme coordinator for the New York Institute of Technology's (NYIT), MSc in Instructional Technology for Educators (MSIT), at the School of Interdisciplinary Studies & Education (SoISE), Abu Dhabi campus. She develops the school's graduate-level programs and teaches courses in instructional technology in face-to-face and blended-learning environments. She supports tertiary students within technology-rich settings in the United Arab Emirates, and advises on Abu Dhabi Education and Federal Qualification Framework committees as well as working with local educators to enrich their professional development.
Prior to coming to the UAE in 2008, Parkes worked at universities in Hong Kong and Australia. She was also the external evaluator for teacher education research projects with Scandinavian Universities. As a military veteran (R.A.A.F) and former police educator, her experiences in these areas inspired her research interests in transformative and enquiry-based learning, action research, and andragogy.
She graduated from the University of Technology, Sydney with an M.Ed. and B.Ed., and earned her Ed.D. and Graduate Certificate in University Teaching and Learning from Charles Sturt University, Australia.
