Bienvenidos a CienciaPR, una red de recursos para todos los interesados en las ciencias y en Puerto Rico.
My name is Ivan Santiago. I grew up in the South Bronx, and I am of Puerto Rican descent. I attended the City College of New York, where I received a Bachelor's and Master's of Science in Biology. I have since gone on to attend Harvard University, where I am a PhD student in the Program in Neuroscience. My thesis project focuses on the molecular principles that govern circuit development. I am currently in my second year.
Lamination is a well-conserved feature across brain regions and organisms. Neurons are able to target distinct layers within a laminar structure, which is the basis for compartmentalization of functionally distinct circuits. I am studying the molecular mechanisms by which different neuronal types establish proper laminar innervation.
