Nora Álvarez, PhD student at the University of Puerto Rico is conducting her thesis about mining in South America. The results from her research have become very important around the World.
Según la investigadora científica Nora Álvarez, en varias zonas boscosas de América del Sur existe tanto minería legal como ilegal, artesanal e industrial. Todas están causando, en mayor o menor medida, deforestación ambiental, aunque la estudiante doctoral solo ha identificado las zonas en las que el daño ha sido de gran magnitud, según revelan imágenes de satélite.
