Tenure-Track Faculty Position
(Assistant/Associate)
Department of Genetics
Yale University School of Medicine

The Yale Department of Genetics is looking to appoint an outstanding investigator who will actively contribute to our core values of diversity, innovation and excellence in the field of human genetics and genomics. The successful applicant will join a vibrant community of exceptional scientists and clinician-scientists who recognize the fundamental importance of diversity as a key driver of innovation and discovery in science. Applications from investigators, particularly those from diverse backgrounds and/or whose research focuses on under-represented and underserved populations in genetics and genomics are especially encouraged to apply.

Areas of particular interest include human genetics and genomic health, population genomics, functional genomics, biomedical data science, biostatistics, computational genetics and genomics, and artificial intelligence and machine learning as applied to human genetics and genomics. Applications from investigators working at the interface of these areas will be considered favorably. In addition, the Department welcomes applications that bridge these areas with either Pediatrics, Surgery, Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Sciences and/or Therapeutic Radiology and in such cases will partner with the relevant Department to jointly appoint the successful applicant.

About you:
In addition to a highly innovative and impactful research program in human genetics and/or genomics, the successful applicant will bring a genuine commitment to diversity and inclusion in academic science. The successful applicant will also embrace the fundamental importance of mentoring in enriching the scientific growth and professional development of trainees. The successful applicant will thrive in the scientific, cultural, and intellectual diversity that fosters a strong sense of collegiality and community in the Department of Genetics.

The successful applicant must hold a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent degree. The rank of appointment will be commensurate with experience and the position will come with a substantial start-up package. As a member of the Department of Genetics, the successful applicant will have full access to the vast range of services and facilities provided by the Yale School of Medicine and enjoy the full range of benefits as Yale faculty.

We are currently developing and implementing a range of educational and operational initiatives to improve diversity and inclusion in our Department, which we recognize as fundamental for promoting scientific creativity, innovation and scientific discovery.

Members of the Department of Genetics conduct basic, clinical and translational research using genetics and genomics of model organisms and humans to understand fundamental mechanisms of biology and disease. For decades, the Department has been a leader in human genetics and genomics and is strongly affiliated with the Yale Center for Genome Analysis, The Yale Center for Mendelian Genomics, The Yale Center for Genomic Health and the Zebrafish Phenotyping Core for Precision Medicine. Areas of active investigation include genetic and epigenetic regulation of development and disease, molecular genetics, stem cells and other dynamic cellular systems, regulation of gene expression, computational biology and human genomics. Please see https://medicine.yale.edu/genetics for more information.

The Department of Genetics also provides clinical care in Medical Genetics in the Yale New Haven Health System. Clinical genetics services include inpatient consultation and care, general, subspecialty, and prenatal genetics clinics, and clinical laboratories for cytogenetics, DNA diagnostics, and biochemical diagnostics. The Department sponsors a Medical Genetics Residency program leading to certification by the American Board of Medical Genetics. Admission to the Genetics Residency is directly through the Department.

The Department of Genetics is dedicated to providing an inclusive workplace that promotes and values diversity in age, gender identity, race, sexual orientation, physical or mental ability, and ethnicity. Diversity is our commitment and our passion; we invite you to be part of it.
