Post-Doctoral Fellowship Opportunities

We are seeking a highly motivated and hardworking researcher for an immediate postdoctoral fellowship opportunity available at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Division of Nephrology. The postdoctoral fellow will be involved in an NIH funded R01 study to investigate the mechanisms involved in gut microbiota kidney cross talk during AKI and AKI to CKD progression.

Our groups identified the pathophysiologic role of CD4 T cells in Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) and is at the forefront of identifying mechanisms through which T cells mediate the injury and repair phases of AKI following ischemia reperfusion or nephrotoxic insult. Prior results from my lab show that different subsets of CD4 T cells play pathogenic (J Clin Invest. 2001) as well as reparative roles during AKI (Kidney Int. 2009). Recently, my research group also identified that double negative T cells (CD4-CD8-TCR+) are important during AKI and play reparative roles (J Am Soc Nephrol. 2016, J Am Soc Nephrol. 2019). We have also shown that gut microbiota plays and important role in AKI pathophysiology and has a bidirectional relationship with kidney (Am J Physiol Renal Physiol. 2009, Kidney360. 2021). We are also recently started exploring the role of novel immune checkpoint molecules in AKI pathophysiology and repair processes and are interested to develop immune cell therapy for AKI.

Our lab utilized state of the art techniques such as single cell RNA-seq, CRISPR/Cas9, spectral cytometry and transdermal GFR and various KO animals to study kidney T cells in various experimental settings related to our research focus.

Required Qualifications:

A PhD or MD/PhD degree in immunology, microbiology, molecular biology, biotechnology or other related fields is required. A strong background in T cell immunology, gut microbiota related techniques, multi parameter flow cytometry and survival surgery is highly desirable. Previous experience with mouse genetic models, immune cell isolation and culture or kidney-related research is desired, but not required.
