DESCRIPTION

The Division of Undergraduate Education at UCLA invites applications for the position of Director for the Undergraduate Research Center (URC) for Sciences. Reporting to the Assistant Vice Provost for Undergraduate Research, the Director oversees staffing, budgeting, outreach, development and special events as well as evaluation and assessment for all programs in the URC-Sciences office. The Director serves as principal investigator for both private and federally funded programs and is responsible for writing grants and grant reports. Will oversee a Center that houses upwards of 30 undergraduates research programs and activities. The director will teach and administer URC programs including the student research program course, science journal, research presentation events, and both college- and externally-funded undergraduate research programs, some of which specifically serve underrepresented students. The Director collaborates with faculty to work with and mentor students involved in URC programs. The focus of this position is to support the research experiences for undergraduates, including outreach, counseling, and management of introductory research opportunities.

A doctoral degree is required; Ph.D. in the life sciences, physical sciences or engineering is essential and highly preferred. Post-doctoral research experience as well as administrative or other leadership experience and university-level teaching experience are required. The successful candidate must have demonstrated experience in student mentoring and publication of scholarly work. Grant writing experience is preferred. We are looking for someone with the ability to work collegially with faculty and staff; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; excellent written and presentation skills. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated successful experience in: administration; teaching; program assessment; mentoring; and programs that foster academic success for underrepresented students. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Hiring salary range is $81,684 to $89,472/year.

Position remains open until filled. This is a full-time (100% time) position, with a projected November 1, 2015 start date.
