Center for Industrial Biotechnology Learning wins 2006 Innovation prize

The Center for Industrial Biotechnology Learning (CABI) of the University of Puerto Rico-Mayagüez (UPRM) recently won the 2006 Innovation prize presented by the Southern Growth Policies Board, an organization that promotes economical development in the Southern region of the United States, including Puerto Rico. CABI was selected out from 200 nominations, for developing an exemplary technological initiative.

Puerto Rican manatis subject of study

The US Fish and Wildlife Service will conduct a study to evaluate the status of manatis in Florida and Puerto Rico. Manatis have been considered an endangered species since 1967. Few studies have been conducted on manatis and it is hoped that this study will lead to recommendations that improve the living conditions of this acquatic mammal.

UVM George Washington Henderson Fellowship in Biology (two year post-doc)

The Department of Biology at The University of Vermont is seeking to recruit an outstanding postdoctoral fellow who will complement the strength of existing faculty and extend the breath of the Biology program, and who can diversify the university’s curriculum and address issues of multiculturalism. Applicants who hold a PhD from a range of disciplines (molecular/cell biology, developmental biology, physiology, neurobiology, biochemistry or analytical chemistry) will be strongly considered. Preference will be given to candidates who apply modern techniques of proteomics, genomics and/or computational biology to the study of biological complexity. U.S. Citizens and legal permanent residents (LPR) are eligible to apply. Candidates who have a demonstrated commitment to the incorporation of racial or ethnic diversity studies into their research or teaching are encouraged to apply.
